Trays

Our Tray Features

We’ve received a lot of questions about our trays, including how to create a custom set for games we don’t support and how to mix trays to create the perfect set. It all depends on the main factor: how many trays you can fit inside the game box. In most cases, you have very limited space and need to compress everything inside the trays as much as possible.

To do so here are some tricks that you can use in needs:

  • Use as many 15mm-deep trays as you need, but with only one lid. This connection is durable and won’t let anything fall out of the bottom tray. However, it’s best to only fill the bottom tray halfway.
For example, the set of 4 trays with a depth of 15mm and one lid has a total height of 38mm. The total space available for tokens/counters is 33mm in height, and one tray is very deep. Similarly, the set of 4 trays with a depth of 8mm and 4 lids has a total height of 39mm, and the total space available for tokens/counters is 30mm in height.

  • Use an 8mm tray (with no lid) at the bottom of a 15mm tray. This 8mm tray will be entirely hidden inside the 15mm tray, and is suitable for tokens/counters up to 3-4mm in height. This lets you add an extra tray to your set for better sorting of all game components.

  • Mix the 20 compartments trays with 12 compartments trays with no lids. At the top, put the standard 15mm tray with 20 compartments, and underneath it, you can place a 15mm tray with 12 compartments and no lid. This way, you will get extra space for cards or small game boards.

A great choice for organizing your game pieces is our universal set of trays, which you can find at this link: https://cube4me.com/product/universal-set-with-12-trays-2/

To take advantage of the features described above, you can add the following trays without lids to your order:

Here is a short movie that shows a solution created for one of the 18xx games, which contains a mix of all the above points:
